Wayne Rooney hits his 251st goal as Man United ease past Burnley

Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial were on target today.

MAN UNITED SHOWED no signs of struggling in the absence of key striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as they registered a comfortable 2-0 victory against Burnley.

First half goals from Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney secured all three points at Turf Moor, to ensure that Jose Mourinho’s side maintain their chase on a top-four place on the Premier League table.

Martial opened United’s scoring account when he completed a counter-attack by poking the ball past the clutches of Tom Heaton after 20 minutes.

Rooney hit his 251st goal for United  in the 37th minute when Martial combined with Paul Pogba to capitalise on a poor header from Robbie Brady to work the ball into a dangerous position.

Rooney slipped the ball past Heaton from a tight angle, and although there was an attempt at a clearance, the goal stood.

United went into this game with a worrying injury list. In addition to the loss of Ibrahimovic, they were also without defender Marcos Rojo.

Both suffered serious knee injuries in United’s Europa League clash against Anderlecht during the week.

Paying tribute to their injured teammates, United players warmed up for today’s game, wearing training tops with either Ibrahimovic or Rojo’s name printed on the back.
